Travel time varies depending on the route, road conditions and location of your accommodation.Arrive around lunchtime and check in for lunch.Later in the afternoon, set out for your first Maasai Mara game drive.As the afternoon cools, the savannah becomes increasingly active. Rise early for a morning game drive in the Maasai Mara.Early morning is a particularly rewarding time to be on the plains. Lake Nakuru and Maasai Mara can be visited throughout the year, although conditions change with the seasons.
June to October: Generally drier conditions, making this a popular period for game viewing. The Maasai Mara can also experience increased wildlife activity associated with the seasonal wildebeest movement.
January to February: Often relatively dry, with good conditions for game drives.
March to May: The long-rains period can bring greener landscapes and fewer visitors, although some roads may become more challenging after heavy rain.
November to December: Short rains can produce fresh vegetation and changing wildlife patterns.
If your main interest is the Great Wildebeest Migration, your travel dates are particularly important. Migration movements and river crossings are seasonal but not fixed, so crossings should never be treated as guaranteed.
Three days is a good introduction to Lake Nakuru and Maasai Mara, particularly for travelers with limited time in Kenya.
